Eoghan Ruadh 1-2 Kilburn Gaels 5-17
Despite the absence of several players the Kilburn Gaels minor team still managed to register twenty-two scores against an understrength Eoghan Ruadh side as they ran out winners by a margin of 27 points.
Kilburn got off to a fantastic start with two points and a goal from Kevin Grace following some good play from the forwards. Two points from Thomas O'Neill and a second goal from full-forward Grace, extended Kilburn's lead to 2-4 to no score inside the first fifteen minutes.
Centre-back Tadhg Lee and Michael Maher in midfield linked up brilliantly to provide points Declan Mullan, Jimmy Delaney and Alan Troy, before a brilliant solo effort by Declan Mullan to score a goal and give the visitors a comfortable half time advantage of 3-7 to 0-0.
Alan Troy extended Kilburn's lead in the second half scoring a point from Tadhg Lee's brilliant clearance from the back line. Eoghan Ruadh proved that they were not down and out just yet and registered their first score with a point. Kilburn quickly responded, however, with Grace completing his hatrick extending his personal tally to 3-2.
Alan Troy scored his third point of the day before switching positions with captain Tadhg Lee who himself scored three points in the closing stages of the game.
Some excellent work from the Kilburn forwards resulted in further points from Declan Mullan, Thomas O'Neill and Michael Maher and a goal from Vincent Connolly, his first for the club in only his second appearance for Kilburn.
Eoghan Ruadh managed to pull back a goal and a point right at the end of the match, but it was mere consolation as the Kilburn boys set themselves as the team to beat this year.
Captain Tadhg Lee had a solid game in defence and was equally as impressive when he moved to the forward line. Declan Mullan and Patrick Troy worked well around midfield setting up the majority of the scores and it was good to see so many of the U16 players having a good game in what is a physically tougher grade.
