U16s off to good start in league

U16 Hurling League

Sean Treacys 0-4 Kilburn Gaels 4-6

Kilburn Gaels' U16 league campaign got underway in Mitcham with a 14 point victory over Sean Treacys.

The home side went in to an early lead with a point from Jimmy Cormack, but, Kilburn soon got back on terms with a point from Jimmy Delaney. Patrick Troy and Shane Murphy increased Kilburn's lead with a goal each, before Delaney sent the ball over for a second time.

Treacys' strongest player was Jimmy Cormack working tirelessly around the midfield and he scored his second point of the game to leave the half time score 2-2 to 0-2 in favour of the visitors.

Delaney added two goals in the opening minutes of the second half and together with points from Patrick Troy (2), Thomas O'Neill and Shane Murphy, took Kilburn into a 16 point lead.

Sean Treacys worked hard in the closing stages, scoring two more points, but it was Kilburn who took victory in convincing fashion by 4-6 to 0-4.

Best for Kilburn were Patrick Troy and Jimmy Delaney up front, and John Guerin who was solid at centre-back. Debutant Vincent Connolly also made a good account of himself in his first match with the club.
