U12s make it a double

U12 Championship Final

Kilburn Gaels 4-3 Sean Treacys 1-0

Kilburn Gaels completed a well-deserved double following victory over Sean Treacys in the U12 championship final last weekend. This meeting marked the fifth encounter between the sides this year following three ‘Go Games' blitzes and the league final contested just before the summer break.

Following their dominance in the league Kilburn continued to excel with strong individual performances in all areas of the field, taking some fine scores and dealing comfortably with any attacks on their goal.

Sean Treacys, although unable to match up to the strength of their opponents, put up a battling performance against their North London counterparts and displayed some promising individual skill to acquit themselves well on a day when their task was always going to be difficult. The potential shown by their relatively young squad bodes well for the future and Sean Treacys can look to the coming years assured that with continued effort their day too will come.

This victory marked Kilburn Gaels' first U12 championship title in six years – their current minors were the last Kilburn team to win it - and is a fitting testament to the effort they have put in to renewing the lower age groups of their club and the patience shown with their young players in the years since.

All involved can look back on 2007 as an extremely successful year for U12 hurling in London, with over sixty boys and girls competing on a regular basis under the new ‘Go Games' structure. Hopefully this can become a platform on which to build for the future and take steps towards affirming the sport's status within London in years to come.
