2007 Ulster Hurling Blitz: London vs Tyrone, Monaghan, Cavan, Donegal & Fermanagh |
|
The London U16 hurlers enjoyed a successful weekend at the U16 Ulster Blitz held in Monaghan in May. Twenty players drawn from four clubs made the journey to Ireland to compete in Section 2 of the competition against Tyrone, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal and Fermanagh.
Impressive performances saw them register wins against Cavan and Monaghan and a well-earned draw against Tyrone in the early part of the competition to leave them in good shape heading into the afternoon. Suffering from a rapidly depleting squad through a number of injuries London fought out a tough match with Donegal, scoring a late point to earn themselves a second draw, before lining out against an undefeated Fermanagh side. With the panel down to just seventeen players by this stage of the afternoon London were simply overwhelmed by the stamina and ability of an impressive Fermanagh outfit to suffer their only defeat of the day.
Despite this late disappointment against Fermanagh, their impressive performances earlier in the day were enough to earn London a very commendable runners-up spot in their section, ahead of their much-fancied opponents Tyrone and Donegal. |
