U12 League Finals

3rd July 2008: This Sunday it is the turn of the U12 players to take to the stage in the league semi-finals and final. Granuaile will take on Sean Treacys in the semi-final for the right to play Kilburn in the league final. In addition, London's first ever U8 hurling game will be played in the form of an exhibition match. Players aged 6-8 from Granuaile, Kilburn Gaels and Sean Treacys will combine to put on a display of U8 Go Games infront of what will hopefully be a large crowd of U12 players and parents. The timeable for the day is as follows:

11.00am League Semi-final: Granuaile vs Sean Treacys
11.40am U8 Go Games Exhibiton Match
12.15pm League Final: Winner of Semi-final vs Kilburn Gaels
13.00pm Presentation of League Shield

U14s lose out in league semi-final
30th June 2008: Kilburn Gaels' U14s met their match in a closely fought league semi-final against Granuaile yesterday. Having managed to stay within a point of the Harrow side for most of the second half, some loose marking around the Kilburn centre field in the dying minutes allowed Granuaile to skew the scoreboard, scoring two late goals to win by 3-4 to 1-3. Kilburn will now have to see off Sean Treacys in a championship semi-finals to earn the right to take on Granuaile again who advance straight to the final as league winners.

New home for underage players!
25th June 2008: As of Friday 27th June Kilburn Gaels will be offering an extra training session in Montrose Park, Colindale. Sessions will take place every Friday from 6:30 - 8pm on the Gaelic pitch at the far end of the park. Girls and boys from the age of 6 are welcome to join us.

London put up great show at Feile
23rd June 2008: London's U14 hurlers made it to the semi-finals of their Division at Feile na nGael last weekend recording two victories along the way. The team began in earnest on Friday afternoon with a 3-6 to 1-0 victory over host club, Edenderry; putting on a display of hurling to match the glorious sunshine. Fast forward 24 hours, however, and the situation could not be more different. Faced with torrential rain and a pitch fast turning into a swamp, the team struggled to get out of the blocks against Laois side Ballinamere/Durrow and following the loss of dominant centre-back, Ryan Forde, fell to pieces to go down by 1-4 to 1-0. Passage to the knock-out stages now depended on how the team performed against Warwickshire, who had earlier beaten Edenderry by a point. As the rain fell harder and conditions got worse the Warwickshire side relished in what tend to be their favourite conditions slowly eating in to London's slim half-time advantage before rattling the London net to take the lead. London, at this stage, were all over the place and struggling to create anything that even resembled a scoring chance. When the ball finally fell into the full-forward line, however, captain Thomas Hanlon showed great determination in keeping the ball in play before executing the perfect shot from a very acute angle to give London a one point advantage and one foot in the semi-finals. Two minutes later Charlie Rose calmly took advantage of the empty Warwickshire net to ensure London's place in Saturday evening's game and signal the celebrations on the sideline. The semi-final against Coolera-Strandhill of Sligo proved a bridge too far for London in a game where they were outplayed in every area of the field and only spared from embarrassment by their heroic 'keeper, Christopher Weller. London could, however, take heart from the knowledge that they held the Sligo outfit to their 'closest' margin all weekend as Coolera-Strandhill went on to win the competition on Sunday afternoon. Congratulations to Kilburn Gaels' players on their magnificant efforts over the weekend: Thomas Hanlon (capt), Ryan McManus, Patrick McGovern, Eirean Quilkin, Aaron Kilkenny-Kelly, Ben Stephenson, Christopher Weller, Fintan Curley, Jack Doyle, Shane McDonagh, Stephen Murray, Conor Howlin, Daniel Duggan, Charlie Rose.

U12s remain on track to defend league title
17th June 2008: The U12 team put themselves in a strong position to retain the league title they won 12 months ago with victory at the last league blitz on Sunday. A win over Granuaile on the day left them level on points with the Harrow side at the top of the league after three rounds. The toss of a coin at last night's Minor Board meeting, however, saw Kilburn claim the top spot and a bye into the league final where they will now face either Granuaile or Sean Treacys on Sunday 6th July. Victory in this would see them straight into the championship final, while defeat would require them to play a semi-final before the teams break for the Summer holidays.

Seniors come up short
15th June 2008: The Seniors' poor season continued this weekend as they faced a far stronger Robert Emmetts side in the Division 1 league. Glimmers of hope on our part were rare as the Emmetts helped themselves to a healthy 2-15 while Kilburn could only scrape together six points during an hour's hurling. The losses suffered during the winter coupled with a lack of new blood into the club have hit the team hard and with the championship now just weeks away time is running out to find a solution.

Feile na nGael 2008
13th June 2008: Fourteen of Kilburn Gaels U14 hurlers, together with thirteen club parents and mentors, will set off for this year's Feile na nGael in Laois & Offaly next Thursday. This is the largest contingent on the Feile panel from any one club since Kilburn provided the same quota for the successful trip to Ulster in 2002. The panel have prepared extremely well under the guidance of Paul Doyle and are hopeful of progressing beyond the group stages for the first time since winning their division six years ago. The team will play their first match against Edenderry on Friday before travelling to Ballinamere/Durrow on Saturday for their final two group matches. Kilburn Gaels wishes the London panel the best of luck and looks forward to hearing about their progress over the weekend.

Golf Day
12th June 2008: The club's annual Golf Day will take place on Friday 4th July at Ealing Golf Club. Teams are invited to enter at a cost of £200 for four including a round of golf and evening meal. Sponsorship of £100 for a hole is most welcome. Anyone who can offer sponsorship or who would like to enter a team is asked to contact Sean Riordan on 07753-378993.
